Yet another reason to give up my car and move into the city

If for some reason you find your car speeding out of control remember to do the following: Don’t panic. Put the car into Neutral and then turn off the engine. As the car slows down guide it to the side of the road and make sure to put your emergency blinkers on.

Driving home at around 1:30 AM. I am trying to get to the exit ramp of the highway but the car in front is driving a bit to slow for my tastes. With flick of the wrist my turn signal is on and I speed up to pass him. That’s where it all went wrong.

My foot must have slipped or I might have misjudged how hard to press the gas pedal. The next thing I notice is that the pedal is now stuck hard to the floor and the car is speeding up at an alarming rate.

I panicked.

And I didn’t even get NES a present

1up.com is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Nintendo with a week long week long special feature. One of my favourite articles is Good Nintentions, listing some of the not-so sparkling moments of Nintendo fandom.

In the article they list the NESbuckle as one of those “Game Over” items. Around this time last year I was seriously considering getting one of these if not making one myself. Cooler heads convinced me otherwise.

However I like 1up.com’s argument better:

You’ll also notice, on the product’s official web site, that the NES belt buckle looks good on attractive women. Well, duh. Everything looks good on attractive women. They could be wearing a hat made of glued-together Nintendo Cereal System bits and a used garbage bag as a poncho and they’d still look good.

So true, so true … and I am far from being an attractive women … so far, so far.

Kankuro in the Hat

So the search for a Kankuro hat continues. After exhausting many leads, I’m thinking of making one myself.

First things first: I’ll need a Hidden Sand Headband if only for the metal plate. That would probably be the easiest component to pick up.

Next I’ll need to put together a simple black felt winter hat. Ms. Stewart has a good set of instructions for that. I’ll have to figure out how to make the “cat ears” but that shouldn’t require too much modification to the original design. I don’t plan on making the back drape down to my shoulders, instead keeping it up to about the regular length for a winter toque.

Then it’s just a matter of putting it together … which may be the biggest problem since I haven’t touched a sewing machine since grade school. Perhaps it would be wise to find someone else to do all the needle and thread business, like this gal.

My justification for all of this is that I really do need a new winter hat. Might as well make one to match the geek within.

Camera Phones are so steeped.

Techno-lust has taken over me again. After only having my current phone for a year I’m itching to get a new one; Specifically the Sony Ericsson K750. The sexy design and 2 Megapixel digital camera are drawing me to it. The $400 US price tag is keeping me away.

Kicking me away … with extreme prejudice … Itai!

I guess I can wait till next year. Heck my current phone went way down in price, this one is sure to do the same.

Only on eBay #2

Next up on the eBay auctioning block: The Dumbest eBayer Ever Mystery Award. As the posting points out, there are a lot of stupid things put up for auction every day. Why not an engraved plaque naming you the dumbest eBayer of all time?

And no I won’t be bidding on the auction, thank-you-very-much.

Because crosswords are too hard when you can’t spell

My latest addiction involves a lot of numbers. If you work downtown you have probably run across those number puzzles in the Metro commuter newspaper. They are called Sudoku or Number Place puzzles; where you have to place the numbers 1 to 9 in a 9 by 9 grid pattern so that no column or row contains the same number more then once. Sounds simple, but the little buggers can get really tricky.

If you’d like to try a couple here are a few links to some sites that put up new puzzles daily.

They’re challenging enough to do while you sit on the train … trying to ignore the housewives beside you yapping about their husbands, their kids, office gossip … bleah. I’ve got to remember to bring my iPod with me.

Franz Ferdinand @ The Ricoh Colosseum

The boys from Glasgow were back in town, playing their first arena gig in Toronto. While the show wasn’t sold out, the entire crowd was there for a super fantastic show. Franz Ferdinand did not disappoint.

The energy of the band seems to ooze off the stage in excess amounts, keeping the concert alive and upbeat. A good selection of old and new hits had me dancing in my seat the whole time. It was interesting to see how the crowd reacted to some of the new material; clearly outlining which song could be the next big hit. An extended encore was just icing on the cake, leaving you wanting more.

The sound was quite good considering the hockey arena nature of the venue. Concrete walls echo like crazy, but it thankfully wasn’t enough to ruin the show. Lighting was bang on, complimenting each song but not becoming to overpowering at the same time. I’m glad I was able to see all the charming stage antics, including a moment where three people were playing one drum kit all at the same time. Technically an over-kill but it looks quite awesome on stage.

I’ve been telling my friends that Franz Ferdinand put on great live shows, and I’m glad they can carry that over into larger venues. From the introductions mid way through the set to when all 4 members take a bow, you really get the sense that this is strong, well put together show offering you more then what you’d be able to get off the CD. Too often you find live shows end up feeling as if you’ve just watch a band lip-synch their album note for note. I’m glad bands like FF break that mold in that sense. I highly recommend you catch them when they are in your neck of the woods.

Why I haven’t been posting lately

6 Naruto DVDs + 4 Inuyasha DVDs = a sudden tendency to shout random phrases in Japanese and not have a clue what you’re saying.

I’m also blinking less … and I want a Kankuro hat.

The party went up a notch when we managed to run over the cat

Of course I should give a very big thank you to Marmy and Toast for inviting me over to said Thanksgiving Dinner. Turkey with all the fixin’s plus a dessert spread fit for a royal banquet! Along with the great company and of course a bit of Katamari Damacy and you’ve got the recipe for a great evening!

Thanks again, and a happy Canadian Thanksgiving and/or Columbus Day to the rest of you!

There are four lights!

Because these songs came up during Marmalade and Toast’s Thanksgiving Dinner. Also because I can’t stop listening to The Picard Song, yes the same I was raving over in this post, only it’s the full extended version.

“He just kept talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one had a chance to interrupt it was really quite hypnotic”
