My Ideal Winter Outfit

If I have my way, this winter I’ll be sporting the following cold weather attire:

  • Navy Blue Pea Coat - Classic, sharp, functional. I already have one, but it is quite big on me as I first bought it when I was about 40 pounds heavier.
  • Dark Gray Zip-up Turtleneck Sweater - To be worn under the Pea Coat when things get really cold, or on its own when the weather warms up. I am hoping the turtleneck will help eliminate the need for a scarf.
  • Navy Blue Ribbed Knit Rolled Rim Toque - I go through one of these every winter. Somehow I manage to misplace them during the summer. Last year’s toque accidentally got into the dryer and became a huge fluffy mess. I bought one at the start of the month when it started getting cold but I am contemplating getting another one just in case.
  • Mittens - I am still undecided on the color and the material. Ribbed knit and navy blue to match my hat? Why not dark gray acrylic ones which are more functional in wet weather. Sure a nice set of black leather gloves would complete the set but in my humble opinion Mittens > Gloves on so many levels.

It is a pretty standard look, but a good look none the less. I am going to take my old Pea Coat to a tailor to see how much it would cost to alter it. I may also check out a few army surplus and second hand stores to see if I can find a Military Issue version, perhaps even an Officer’s Coat. Brass buttons and epaulets? I’m all over that!

JMAC’s Twenty Points

Take a lesson from Jason McElwain: when you get that one shot you’ve always wanted, make the most of it.

More power to you good sir, more power.

Cherry Chocolate Rain

Take a lesson from Tay Zonday: if you are going to sell out, sell out big.

More power to you good sir, more power. May be NSFW if your office doesn’t appreciate the typical Hip-Hop music video scantily clad dancing girl shenanigans.

Pentagram 2008 Typography Calendar

I am seriously considering buying one of these Pentagram 2008 Typography Calendars; The large 33-by-22 inch one to hang over my desk. I think it would make a great piece of functional wall art for my tiny little place.

Maybe Mr. T. is pretty handy with a computer!

Mr. T is a Night Elf Warrior Mohawk.

Mr. Shatner is a Tauran Shaman.

Does Blizzard really have to make commercials for this game? I would have thought they have made enough money off this game to buy their very own Scrooge McDuck vault to swim in.

Social Nerdwanking

Diesel Sweeties does it again with this humors look at the various Social Networks out there. For the record I had a Friendster account but deleted it after awhile. I also picked up an Okrut profile when that first went live but I barely touched it. Of course there is my poor, neglected Flickr account that hasn’t seen an update since … hey forgot I uploaded these photos!

I just don’t have time to maintain profiles on all these sites. I barely have enough time to work on this website which seriously needs a new layout. Gah!

At least I can say my apartment has more square footage

Deputydog has a list of 10 Doghouses (he’d) actually live in. The amount of detail in some of these places is crazy! Tile floor, stone walkways, flat screen TVs and air conditioning?! My new place doesn’t even have an air conditioning unit!

But if I ever do get a dog, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this great little “toaster trailer” doghouse for the lucky little pooch.

Toaster Trailer Doghouse

The food and water dishes on the trailer hitch are a nice touch. I wonder if you could attach it to a remote control car and tow your puppy along for a micro road trip.

Marching Band Video Game Madness!

I am a sucker for any clip featuring a band playing video game theme songs.

A clip where a marching band plays video game theme songs while creating icons from said games with their marching patterns? So. Awesome. The Legend of Zelda theme always sounds good when played with a big band but this is the first time I’ve heard the Pokemon song in full effect. That just about made my day.

Imagine the response you would get if you did this at your wedding reception!

Turbo sent this video my way yesterday. In it you will see a couple practicing a basic Sinawali while performing a traditional Filipino folk dance called Tinikling. They are a bit shaky, but according to the description of the video this was their second try at it and the gentlemen in the video is a beginner in Arnis as well. Still pretty impressive none the less.

This is something I have always joked about doing in my Arnis class. After watching the video I think L and I could pull it off easily! Add a couple of spins and angled footwork in there, speed it up a little bit … yeah that would be so awesome!

10 Kick Ass Facts About Bruce Lee

Since we’re on the topic of Bruce Lee, Neatorama has compiled 10 kick ass facts about this martial arts legend. My favourite point is this one:

Most martial art films are sped up to make fighting scenes appear fast, but not Bruce Lee’s. His moves were too fast to be captured on the regular 24 frames per second film - so they had to film him at 32 fps, and run the film slower so you can see his moves.

I aspire to achieve even half of his speed in my martial arts training. I am sure many others do as well.
