Does not compute

Would someone please explain how this comic book team-up came to pass? Not that I’m complaining, I just don’t quite understand where the inspiration for it came from.

What is next? Batman wielding Obama-Chucks?

Can’t blog. Playing Spore. You should too!

I need more people to add to my friends’s list … which is currently empty. Le sigh.

I’ll Eat You Up!

Ever since Ernie posted about it, I’ve had “Eat You Up” by BoA in my head. Correction: I’ve had the chorus from this clip stuck in my head. The verse is kind of jagged, but no more than any other dance/pop song out there.

But the chorus? Yeah, that chorus is smooth.

Electronic Drumkit T-Shirt

Think Geek has just come out with an Electronic Drumkit T-Shirt. This high tech top has a touch sensitive picture of a drum kit emblazoned on the front. Tap any of the drum kit items with your fingers and the appropriate sound plays!

Note that in this video the top was wired for sound. I imagine it’s real life volume would be alright; probably enough to entertain a small crowd. Still there is no denying that this shirt does rock.

A gold star for the first person who mods this to make it work with Rock Band.

Garlic flying everwhere!

Here is a great preview of Wario Land: Shake it!, a new game for the Nintendo Wii. Normally I would post the video here on the blerg but …

… well see for yourself.

Softness in his eyes! Iron in his thighs!

I remember watching “The Mighty Hercules” when I was very little boy. A local television station had it playing in syndication every morning and I would wake up very early to watch a few episodes of it. I also remember begging my mom to give me one of her rings so could have a power ring and be just as strong as Herc.

Thanks to the powers of YouTube I can relive those mornings whenever I want. Hooray for nostalga!

The Mighty Hercules: Medusa’s Sceptre

I love how Herc breaks the Scepter by smacking it across Daedelus head. Dude was the original Greek Pimp yo!

More after the break.

I want your teeth for the federal reserve

I’ve watched this video at least a dozen times now and I still find it funny. Every so often I find my self quoting it to no one in particular. One comment I saw called it “humor with no reason” and compared it to Monty Python.

I don’t know about that, but I find it hilarious. It will serve me well to brighten my room as I work overtime this weekend. Ugh.

Spider Dog, Spider Dog, Does what ever a Spider Dog does

Two strings is enough to invoke a lot of emotion

Here is another slightly useless fact about me: Whenever I encounter a busker playing an erhu, I always drop them a few coins. The musician doesn’t even have to be particularly good, they just need to playing it while I am passing buy.

Although the guy in this video? He’s really good.

There is just something about the sound of the Chinese violin that seems to connect with me. I find it has a voice that flows and that aches with emotion in each of its wavering notes; very different from the sharp and rigid sound I associate with the European violin.

I thought about buying an erhu for myself but thought better of it. When would I ever find the time to practice? I barely make the effort pick up my guitar and bang out a few chords to “Wonderwall”. Trying to learn another instrument would just result in another fancy knick knack to keep on the shelf.

Better to leave the erhu playing to the professionals and to the wonderful buskers on my commute. I am more than happy to exchange my spare change for a few moments of tuneful enjoyment.

Learning from a Master

When I was in the Philippines in July I had the opportunity to learn from a number of Arnis/Eskrima/Kali Masters. My first training session was with Senior Master Samuel “Bambit” Dulay. This is a video of him demonstrating a few locking & takedown techniques.

I’ll admit I was a bit nervous at the start of his session. Although I had 3 years of Arnis training under my belt, I had heard stories that training in the Philippines was tougher and more radical in their approach. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up and that I would be exposed as some sort of poser even though I knew I was not.

Thankfully, Master Bambit’s teaching method was not as extreme as my imagination had made it up to be. The drills he used were similar to the ones my own instructor used in her classes. Master Bambit would build on those drills to show new applications for the blocks and strikes I was already familiar with. I drank his lessons up like dry sponge to water, which is ironic considering how much I sweat that day.

My lessons under Master Bambit were the first of many amazing training session I had that trip. I would love to spend more time with him because I know we were only shown the tip of the iceberg.
