Moving violation

Over the weekend I did the big move to the new apartment. The actual moving of items from one place to another went quite smoothly. I owe a lot of thanks to my friends and family members who showed up to help. They managed to load that truck and unload it in record time. I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better.

The rest of the day was another story.

It started out with me not realizing my move date was the same date as the Toronto Marathon. Roads were closed all across the downtown core, diverting cars, causing traffic all over. This made driving a large and unwieldy cube truck around the city quite unpleasant and very nerve racking.

Things hit rock bottom when I got into a minor traffic accident near a traffic cop. No one was hurt and the damage on the truck was minimal, but I was completely freaked out by the whole situation. Of course I had to sweat it out while I waited, first for an investigating officer to arrive on the scene and then later as he deliberated over the incident with the other cop that was directing traffic. Thankfully the officer was reasonable and understanding of my situation and left me off with a stern warning.

I will probably have to pay for the damages on the truck. I did pay for the insurance on the vehicle when I rented it, but the deductible was pretty high on the policy. I’m just glad to get rid of that accursed vehicle and am happy I am only paying for some damages on a truck instead of paying with some demerit points on my driving record.

Next time I am hiring movers. Not for the help, just to have someone else drive the blasted truck.
