Where’s the blog?

Let’s face it; I am a terrible blogger.

I used to be pretty good at keeping this site updated with all the wacky and mundane moments in my life but that has slowly trickled away. After that I fell back on YouTube videos and “this is neat” links. While it is a valid form of blogging I felt it was sort of the easy way out. Mainly because most of that content was just re-posts from other blogs that were doing a better job of it in the first place.

What I want to do is return tripledoubleyou.com back to its original format. I want to have a bit more of myself included in this site and not just what I had bookmarked off my RSS feeds. There will still be a place for “this is neat” links here, I just hope to include more “this is me” posts as well.

I was hoping the “2008 in Review” posts would be a springboard for that change but I think the idea has already lost its steam. It was probably an idea I should have done at the end of the year instead.

So let’s try to kick this blog back into full gear. Hopefully you and I will have fun along the way.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming

Hi there! Long time no post. My apologies for not keeping up with the demand for content over here. Work took over my free time (and general health) these past few days but now things are starting to look a little better.

I’m hoping to come back into this blog with more meaty posts and less YouTube regurgitation. (I’m sure that provided a lovely image for you this morning)

Out of Blog Autoreply

Hello.

You may have wondered why there hasn’t been much activity here this past month; Sorry about that. I forgot to leave a note here telling the Blogsosphere that I’ll be on vacation for the next few weeks. I also forgot to set my “Out of Office” auto reply on at work but that is another 1000 item inbox story to tell.

But I’m back now and ready to get back into the swing of that blogging thing … only something has changed. After going a month and a bit without blogging I’ve found myself lacking the motivation to get back into it again. No that isn’t correct: I have lost the motivation to get back to writing this blog.

I have been back from vacation for two weeks now and every time I sit down to try and think of a blog post my mind wanders. It is not from the lack of topics to post because my vacation alone is worth at least a week worth of posts if not more. I just … well I don’t know. Maybe I just got used to living a blog free life. Returning to the familiar “grind” of a daily blog I’ve been updating for several years is just unattractive right now.

Do I dare play the dreaded “blogger hiatus” card? Not likely, If I do that I will probably end up posting up some amusing YouTube video come tomorrow afternoon. Instead I think I will start exploring some ideas I have had in the works around topical blogs. I am also interested in exploring other self-web publishing mediums like Twitter or Square Space.

In the mean time I hope you do not mind waiting a little longer for this silly blogger of a boy.

Too many FastCGI errors for my liking

The upgrade to WordPress 2.5 did not go as smoothly as planned. The setup scripts would time out at inconvenient times (i.e. all the time) and I am worried that there may be a few glitches here and there on the site.

If anyone sees anything odd, please leave a comment below and let me know. Your help would be most appreciated.

I got tired of looking at the default layout

Please be patient. I’m fooling around with a new pre-packaged layout so things could get a little hectic around here. I tried installing Wordpress on my computer so I could do this work away from the prying eyes of the internet, but I could never get it to work. Either way I’ll be making changes here and there on this layout till I get it closer to my liking. First thing’s first though: needs more orange!

It has been well over a year since I have tried fooling around with HTML and blog templates. I feel quite rusty.

Scratch that. The new layout isn’t ready yet. I should really work on tweaking it first before it goes live. Although, I do love how easy it is to switch between layouts on Wordpress!

The things I do for this website

The Good News is I’ve updated my Wordpress install to the latest version. Say goodbye to potential security flaws and system defects!

The Bad News is that I managed to wipe out all of my Category listings for my posts … all 800+ of them. D’oh.

For the next few days I’m going to be going back through my archives and will try to re-categorize them. While I’m there I might as well tag each post as well. It will be a very time consuming process, but it will also give me a chance to look back at what I have written these past 2-3 years.

Three years? Wow, time flies when you’re surfing the web for neat stuff.

Back in charge!

Whew!

Someone forgot the password to his Moveable Type account. Someone could not use the password recovery feature of MT because his web server did not support sendmail.

Luckly, someone got help and configured his installation of MT to mail him his password another way.

Boy … talk about your newbie mistakes … heh heh.

A search for “cute single girls” was of no help

By now you’ve heared of Google Maps, but there is also this neat feature called Google Local. You enter in a location plus something you are looking for and Google Local will spit out a map with all the nearest locations offering that something.

For example according to this search there are roughly 43 Starbucks in the Greater Toronto Area. I always though there were more.

Required post about kittens - Check!

Gawd, these cats are so bloody cute! Ginger (the older one on the left) was my favourite of Kristine’s Cats. She would curl up beside me and keep me company while the lady of the house tended to her morning daycare running duties.

The one on the right is so cute I swear that the sight of him alone invokes the taste of caramel in my mouth. Gah! Blast my allergies to cute furry animals …
